Whilst kit manufacturers tend to use as few different materials as possible to keep the costs down, the really fine models are distinguished by using appropriate materials to the smaller parts. Of course these cannot usually be seen as the train passes by. But close examination, particularly with cameras will highlight the chunky nature of overscale thickness. These are now available in two sizes.
The short handles suit most vehicles, whereas the long version is that used on the Siphons (G & H) and other bogie vehicles that have footboards which would make the standard handle inaccessible. The long handles prject above the footboard and behind it. Drawings are hard to find but some photographs show the handle clearly, about halfway along the side of the vehicle.
